The Oslo University Hospital covers a complete spectrum of activities, from clinical research to patient care. In 2002, the hospital was transferred from county to state ownership and is now funded by government-owned trusts. More recently, the hospital merged with four other care units, strengthening its role as a local hospital and establishing more comprehensive pathways of patient care, and from June 2017 the Oslo University Hospital is a Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Annually, the hospital serves over 1 million patients across 40 different locations, and employs a staff of over 18,000. Among its several specialisations, the hospital caters for those in need of transplants and offers both procedures and after-care treatments. Research forms a large part of the offering, with the hospital being among the most active in all of Norway.
