Based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Site, this institution covers a population of around 4 million, with some services provided as far afield as Dublin and Manchester. The leading centre in the Northern Region, it is also one of the largest and highest performing Foundation Trusts in the United Kingdom.

 

The institution has a close association with the Newcastle University Medical School, and has a nationally acknowledged research and development profile. In 2016 it was awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission – the only major teaching hospital to be awarded this accolade. It also contains ten dedicated beds for acute transplantation procedures, and carries out an average of 125 ECP procedures per year in this area.
